I cannot reproduce either reported overheating issue because:

  • I do not have an M4 MacBook Pro or Air to test
    • I do have a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro (16-in) running Sequoia v15.7 and Pages v14.4. It does not overheat with or without Pages running.
  • These are the only two overheating issues that I recall seeing with M4 devices running only Pages.

If there were inherent issues with Pages v14.4 causing an overheating issue, there would be considerably more posts on this topic. And, the fans on my M4 Mac Mini Pro, or Intel 27-in iMac w/Core i7 would be activated. Not the case.

If either of you are running one or more anti-virus or so-called "cleaner" applications, that may create extra demand on your Mac that could be a cause for the overheating condition where Pages is thought to be the causal agent and is not.
