Does the iPhone 17 Pro line really dent and scratch as easily as people are claiming?

Looking to switch back to Apple next year and have nearly always gone Pro Max, but very concerned about how easily they seem to scratch and get dents and nicks, even with cases on them, which I never go without.

I've read multiple comments from people saying they had cases on their 17 PMs and the phones still got dinged up - - someone said that theirs got a small mark basically after just trying on a different case, so the act of taking one off and putting on another caused it.

The 17 Air isn't an option, so please don't recommend it. Are people perhaps making a bigger deal out of this than it really is, as they often do? I certainly hope so but JerryRigEverything's video doesn't help.

Can any owners give me their honest views? TYIA.

I have an Iphone 17 Pro in orange, it’s in and has never been out of the Apple techwoven case, I dropped this phone from elbow height and it fell at an angle where it landed on the top left corner, the orange metal there has dented in and resulted in a bulge of the metal where a gap between the metal and screen has appeared just above the time in the top left, along with a crease like scratch. So I would say that this phone is extremely delicate, as compared to my previous 14 which had no case, and had been dropped from heights higher and even down tiled stairs and came out with scratched but no significant dent.

I have not yet experienced any scratches or dings. I use a case and the case has not caused damage either. You have to remember that most people go to message boards and communities because they experience an issue and want to vent about it. They don’t necessarily show an accurate representation of users experiencing the issue (In this case scratches) so it’s extremely difficult to gauge if an issue is as widespread as the internet will lead you to believe.

Being a skeptic myself about these phones damaging easily I can confirm after dropping mine from pocket height in an Apple silicone case and one of those phone pouches I do indeed have damaged it seems to have dented in just above the earpiece……never had any issues with previous iPhones

How many times did you drop your old phones from pocket height (a serious height) and Apple cases are not the best choice if it is a regular occurrence.

I’m facing the same issue! The paint and body quality on my iPhone 17 Pro (Blue) is honestly pathetic. I’ve had it in an official Apple clear case since day one, and it slipped barely a foot onto a table — still got a dent and scratches on the body inside the case. Really disappointed, especially for such an expensive phone.

I had an iPhone 13 Pro before this, and that one was wayyyy better in terms of durability and finish. The 17 Pro feels like a big downgrade in build quality.

I must have done it probably two or three times over the two years I own them and never had any damage only damage that has occurred is from the apple clear cases my 15 pro max I had the blue started chipping off and it was due to hardness of the clear case and little bits of grit finding its way between the phone and case itself. The dent on mine isn’t half as bad as what people seem to show most of them look like they’ve been thrown at brick wall and purposely scratched I didn’t even notice mine was damaged until the next day now I’ve noticed it it’s annoying me

Absolutely true. It is the most easily scratched of all of the iPhones I ever have. I did never use a phone protector and never has any issue. This time after a week using iPhone 17 pro max I discovered two dents without never having a

drop. Same with never getting hot or battery lasted longer. Two other false claims. Can be verified by everyone.

Extremely unlikely, these stories emerge every new model and we ignore them. Get a good case, probably better and cheaper than Apple’s offerings, and a glass screen protector. Anyone who claims they dinged their phone in a case is probably lying for attention.

And it’s iphone Air, not 17 Air, by the way.

It can't be verified by me. My iPhone 17 Pro has no dents or scratches. Had it since launch day.

Does the iPhone 17 Pro line really dent and scratch as easily as people are claiming?
