Battery conditioning / optimization on MacBooks with older MacOS

Hi All –

My MacBook is a 2015 Pro 11.5, Retina 15-inch, 2.8 GHz, running its latest-possible OS, 12.7.6 Monterey.

The standard procedure that I learned years ago for most kinds of battery on everything, is that life can be extended by regularly discharging the battery almost completely, then re-charging it – in other words, 'running the charge up and down', because leaving the thing plugged in all the time with the battery at 100% shortens the battery life.

However, I got a new iPhone the other day, the 16e, and apparently the latest wisdom is that its battery should not be charged to more than 80% – and there is a feature in settings that lets the user select that 'ceiling'.

Checking, I see that current MacBooks have a similar feature – but not my venerable 2015 model on OS 12.7.6.

Might there be a safe, reliable app that would offer that facility, and who knows, maybe even let users set regular 'almost-discharge, then re-charge' cycles?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.7
