iPhone 17 + iOS 26 does not recognise people and pets in photos

I got my iPhone 17 last week and updated it to iOS 26 as soon as I set it up.

Since then I have taken several pictures (both normal and portrait) but in none of the pictures does it recognise people and pets.

Neither does it recognise people and pets I have already added and favourited, nor does it identify new ones.

I have force rebooted the phone multiple times.

Any one else have the same issue? Any solution?

It can take a week or more for Photos to scan through all the pictures and record the facial characteristics if finds. Only then can it start to compare faces. You may just need to be patient.

To avoid slowdowns, the iPhone won't do the scanning while you're using Photos. And to avoid draining the battery, it won't do much scanning while you're using it. And some scanning may need information from the internet. So, if you want faster scanning, then find good wifi, plug the phone in, and leave it alone.
