When i open iTunes it says:
"Your music, movies, and TV shows are now available in the Apple Music and Apple TV apps. Your audiobooks and podcasts are still available in iTunes"
Then iTunes open and the phone icon is not there no matter what i do. Already tried multiple cables.

Already fixed, my iTunes was not with the latest version on my Windows. I was using the iTunes downloaded from Microsoft, so i uninstalled and installed the one from apple's website.

Thank you, this didn't work for me and I ended up doing my backup on Apple Devices. I've been with Apple for a year now and I'm still very confused about why some things work or don't work, despite a lot of effort to figure it out. I was a whiz with Androids and everything made sense. Why are some people able to backup on iTunes as they instruct you to? Why are others able to do it with the Apple version instead of the Microsoft Store version (which is put out by Apple)? Why was I not able to do it at all using iTunes? These questions never get answered and have no logic to them.
P.S. Another mystery -- finally got the Notes app on Apple Watch with ios 26, thrilled by that. I can't believe people went 10 years without it. The main app on iPhone and it wasn't on the watch?!?
