Gmail app not compatible with iPadOS 16.7.11

I have iPad OS 16.7.11 and want to delete my gmail app because I think it is corrupted but checking with apple apps, it indicated the present gmail app is for OS 17 or higher. As of now, Apple Mail is not recognizing Gmail and only lists emails via my other app, Yahoo Mail. What do I do?
