Safari Bookmarks and Apple Photos do not Sync Using iCloud
I have been unable to get Safari Bookmarks to Sync between my iPad, iPhone and mac mini for years. Other stuff like Notes is OK
I have my own Apple ID, a Mac Min M2, iPad Pro 11-inch (M4), iPhone 14 plus. My wife has her own Apple ID, exactly the same set up, with the same devices and her's all works fine. Go figure.
I have spent hours and hours on the phone with Apple support who always ultimately tell me that they will escalate and get back to me. They never do. When I follow up the case number they quoted me the call centre people says they know nothing about it.
I have tried every fix on the Apple Website. I think I can say I have tried every fix on the internet too. I have uninstalled the mac OS and reinstalled. I even got an entirely new mac mini and iPad Pro.
A couple of weeks ago I decided to try again and enlisted the help of Ai (for what that's worth). Both Ai engines said (after several hours of trying all the documented "fixes" plus testing, deleting bookmarks, deleting plist file etc that it must be a server side issue.
It’s just fundamentally broken. There is a problem in my iCloud account and there ain’t no way I can fix it and Apple don't seem to know how to fix it either (or maybe they just want me to hang up and go away )
As an aside, iCloud doesn't work with photos either unless I only have a few Gig of photographs - anything more than 10 Gig and it stops syncing too. I purchased an iPad Pro 256G specifically so i could have all my photographs on it but iCloud cannot deal with 80 - 90 G of photographs at all - not on the iPad not on my Ethernet connected Mac Mini. Weeks trying to get it to sync and it just keeps stopping.
My internet is FTTP and speed tests at 350 down 40 up. Netgear Orbi mesh wifi system in house.
It is just fundamentally broken. Disappointing and frustrating.
I have stopped (more than a year ago) using Safari completely and just use Firefox as a browser - at least it works and bookmarks do sync. I updated to Tahoe on all devices but it’s still the same.
This week I started using Google Photos and Google Drive, that works too. Next I will start dumping Apple hardware I guess. Google will work better with Android I suppose.
Never mind me - just an old person ranting at the sky.
