I'll go ahead and answer myself. I drove about five hours today without disconnecting. I'm not sure what changed but Waze was on steady the entire drive without a drop (and had been dropping every 5 minutes or so previously. I did up-date to 26.0.1 (although it still dropped immediately after on a short test), also plugged into the USB port closest to the screen. I was set to 5 minutes for "Auto-lock". Another change, I had removed a USB charger from the 110v outlet on the dash (didn't try plugging it back in to see if it made a difference). I didn't check to see if SYNC 3 had up-dated, but I'd never been able to get it to up-date before (I'll post if it was up-dated, though unlikely). Maybe it was the iOS update.

Same here. My iPhone 17 Pro Max will connect to my Ford as my previous iPhone 15 Pro. However, after about 1-2 min, it will disconnect. Same cable. I even purchased a new cable - same result.

I did notice that while in Maps, after 1 min or so, I could not scroll, and a few moments later it would disconnect. I assume it is crashing behind the scene.

I was able to get it not to crash/disconnect a few times when I was was sitting in another CarPlay app (I think I was in Podcast instead of Maps). My testing was limited though.

Highly annoying to buy such an expensive phone and have it disconnect - either the iPhone 17 or iOS 26 must be causing this - never had this constant disconnecting in years using Car Play on different iPhone and iOS versions.

I up-dated iOS with the new version 26.0.1 out today, but that didn't help. I have SYNC 3 (2018 F150) wired connection that keeps dropping with the iPhone 17 Pro. I turned off locking the screen on the phone and that didn't help. It seems to work with iPhone 14 Pro and iOS 26.0.1. It's a new Anker cable and I tried other cables.

Please post if you have any suggestions. I've restarted phone and reset SYNC to original settings.

Me too. 17Pro works fine on my Honda and not my Ford. Spent almost $100 for a new USB port which did not help. Don't know how much time I have wasted but to pay big bucks for a new phone that does not perform is very frustrating. Shame on you Apple. Even more disappointing is not seeing any responses from Apple about this. Sorry I traded in my old phone.

I just got my iPhone 17 pro max. When I plug into ford it works until I talk on speaker phone. Then it completely disconnects from sync. I also tried to listen to podcast shut off then as well. I will try a new cord. I also ordered a usb voltage regulator from Amazon. I am not sure if that will help or how to set it exactly. If anyone else has tried that please let me know where to set it. I suspect phone is pulling to much voltage and shutting it down?????? Wish me luck. Seems like apple could provide an update to tell phone not to pull that much from sync but I don’t know!

This is the first iPhone i'm having any kind of issues so annoying and i keep using those since 4th gen.

Come on, Apple!

I do understand the need of better heat management but the aluminum body is so soft compared to any previous one that you could at least not deploy a device struggling with such a crucial functionality which CarPlay definitely is.

It's really the very first time i'm frustrated having bought an Apple product.

12, 15, 15 pro - they all work fine with particularly the same car i have. The patient is Jeep WK2 2021 with a wired CarPlay.

I'm really considering getting rid of a 17pro and getting back to my beloved titanium 15 pro...
