Trying to update my iphone 12 to ios 26 but there is not enough storage space on the phone and nothing happens when i connect the phone to a Mac computer and click on the update button.

Your iPhone still needs a few GB of available storage to update even with the Mac. The Mac will download the update file but after all it's still your iPhone installing it. Start by going to Settings > General > iPhone Storage and take a look to see what's taking up the most storage then clear that out.
