How to move the search bar back to the top in Mail app on iOS 26?

since updating to IOS 26 the search bar in my mailbox has moved to the bottom. I prefer it at the top but can’t find out how to move it back. There are lots of instructions on how to move the search bar in Safari but can anyone help with moving it in my mail app please?

I hope they move it.

They won't if they don't know, and Apple does not participate here. Posting bug reports here is as effective as hanging all your "lost puppy" posters inside a sewer pipe. The people who need to see it won't.

This is a bit of a pain but it you click on "Format" at the top in the toolbar, the formatting tool bar that appears in the context of the email will disappear. When you need it you then re-click on "Format" at the top and it will reappear at the top of the email text. In other words you have to toggle back and forth. What a bummer!

I’d be interested if they do fix it as i’ve now moved to the gmail app because i find this so annoying (search at the bottom on iphone (just awful)) and then to add inconsistency top right button on the ipad, whereas search in the previous version of mail was so much more intuitive and consistent. Now i’m just stuck with search at the bottom in settings and apple tv (i don’t really use messaging luckily (at least not enough where i need to search it). Every app and website i’ve pretty much ever used has search at the top, to add inconsistency with no benefits from it is just poor design :-(.

Done. Bug reported for this terrible change and also for the inability to turn off driving mode, even though I am not driving! My phone connects automatically, which I prefer and I cannot search while he is driving! I had finally fixed it before, and iOS 26 wiped that out as well as forcing me to search from the bottom of my phone everywhere but Safari. So DUMB

In fact, lots of people don't.

If you can’t be helpful, let’s see if anyone else has found a workaround. If not, that’s ok too - this was posted for Community input right after the update.

Everyone here is a volunteer. And none of us read minds. Sometimes, that results in an answer that isn't what you were hoping for. If you don't like an answer someone has given you, and you can't force yourself to say "Thank you," it's best to say nothing.

Some of us really like it at the bottom.

they are always trying to fix things that aren’t broken .

Correction: They often change things that you wish they wouldn't. That doesn't mean there wasn't a reason. It could be that lots of people asked to have it moved. It could be that there was some other reason to do that. You can let them know how you feel here:
