How to fix 'Spinning Globe' on MacOS Boot

Seeing a spinning globe on MacOS boot can be frightening, but actually, it's really easy to fix.

What does the spinning globe mean?

The spinning globe means that your Mac is trying to enter MacOS recovery mode. When recovery mode opens automatically at boot, it means your operating system has been corrupted and can no longer be booted from.

Fixing the issue

It will look something similar to this. Select a WiFi connection, and your Mac will try to download utilities from the Apple Servers. There will be a progress bar. Don't worry if this takes a while.

Once complete, it will open a MacOS Utilities menu, looking something similar to this:

You can then select 'Reinstall macOS {EDITION}', and macOS will begin to reinstall. You can then set up your Mac as usual. You can also set up from a Time Machine backup, if you have one, in the MacOS Setup Wizard, or from the Utilities menu.

If there is no disk that you can install from, I would recommend taking your Mac to an Apple Store or an Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) to repair it. See Find a Store - Apple (UK) or find one in the US.

I hope this guide finds you well.
