Can I downgrade my macOS in Mac with M chip?

I have a MacBook Air 2025. I'm considering upgrading my Mac to macOS Tahoe, but I want to make sure I can downgrade to macOS Sequoia (in case I don't like the new 'liquid glass' design). Thx.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 15.6

I suggest taking the time to explore Liquid Glass through other means - perhaps visit an Apple Store or other Authorized Apple Dealer to try out Macs running Tahoe. If the Liquid Glass feature is your 'only' concern about upgrading to Tahoe it would be better to explore that way instead of risking an upgrade and then deciding you don't like it and have to go through the aggravation of a downgrade.

If a downgrade even works it's going to require a complete erase & reinstall ... of everything. And, BTW you would also need a second Mac running Apple Configurator 2 in order to downgrade your MBAir.

Downgrading in general is not supported

Downgrading an Apple Silicon computer, which the 2025 MBA is, is even less recommended

This does not mean it is impossible, it just is not recommended

This article refers to doing a Clean Installation on Silicon Computers

I am confident that once you have read and understood all the Technical Details involved

You may think long and hard before trying to revert to Sequoia

If in doubt about the Liquid Glass in macOS 26 Tahoe

There is no current need to upgrade at this time

But, as some time in the future, you may need to upgrade to a newer version of maOs as most developers then to support only the last 3 version of macOS. That being Tahoe, Sequoia and Sonoma
