why does stocks application keep launching?

I don't use the Stocks application on my Mac but every time I check to see what apps are open, Stocks is there, running, using resources. I force quit and ten minutes later, it's open again. Why?

The Stocks widget is probably configured.

Click on the date and time in the menu bar (top right) to see the active widgets. If you see the Stocks widget, right-click on it and remove it.
