I'm doing some research before deciding on a purchase.
The Apple monitors have built-in speakers, but if I bought two of the monitors, would the audio only come from one monitor? Would it split left and right (between the monitors) like some Bluetooth speakers?

I'm guessing that it would only come from one monitor – that System Settings > Sound and the Audio MIDI Setup application would let you choose which one.
But that's based on experience with a system that has one monitor and multiple audio devices (built-in speaker, headphones, external USB sound card …), not on the specific configuration you're asking about.
