While that was not the best thing to do, without your Apple ID and password, they cannot lock your iPhone.
Calling Apple will not lock your phone. Apple does not deal with stolen phones. The closest that could happen is if they were to know who your carrier is and call them, they could block the phone, however I doubt your carrier would do that without ensuring they are speaking to you.
