My left and right airpod are both connected to the case but not to eachother

My left airpod is connected to the case as is my right one. This is the same case. However, my devices see them as two different bluetooth devices. Now I cant use them both at the same time, since only one plays the sound. When I have them both in my ears, it can switch which one is playing the sound by pressing on the airpod. I can’t reset by tapping the case, cause that doesn’t work (seems broken). I have already tried “forgetting” them at the bluetooth settings, but that didn’t work.
