Itunes on new laptop - unable to download half songs in my library - "network connection reset"

I may have fixed this but don't ask me how! I played around with settings.

I downloaded itunes onto my new laptop. it wouldn't accept my old itunes music file so I copied that to an external hard drive, deleted it from laptop and then signed in to itunes again. now all my music appears to be there but the download cloud icon is next to half of my 800 songs and it won't download them (it downloaded the other half) saying "network connection reset". I've researched and my itunes is up to date etc - there's no reason I can find that it shouldn't download them. It's extremely frustrating. Can anyone help please? Thank you
