Ios26 call screening not working on 14 pro max

I have recently posted to ios26 on my iPhone 14 Pro Max and am attempting to set up call screening.

i have been into phone settings and set screen unknown callers to ‘Ask reason for calling’.

But this hasn’t worked. I still get unknown calls coming straight to my phone.

Originally I thought this was because screen calling needed AI and wouldn’t be available on the 14, but I have read reviews on this feature with people having it work on the 12!!

so any idea why this isn’t working for me?
