AirPods Pro 3 and iPhone Xr with iOs 18.7 have issues showing AirPod battery status

The battery reading is visible momentarily while pairing the AirPods with the iPhone so the information clearly can be transmitted from device to another but bringing the AirPod case with the lid open and AirPods inside no longer opens the battery status view on iPhone Xr with iOs 18.7. Is this a bug?
