How can I recover downloaded music and playlists on Apple Music?

I had repurchased Apple Music after a few months to maybe a year of not using it and then all the music I previously listened to or would play and even downloaded are now gone?

My understanding is that if you stop subscribing, all "offline listening" copies of subscription songs, all "synced" copies of songs (that were synced through iCloud), and all playlists that contain subscription songs will go away. Resubscribing will not bring them back – if you want them back, you will have to re-download or re-create them manually.

When you stop subscribing to Apple Music, you should still be left with original copies of purchased music (e.g., music from your own CDs or music purchased from the iTunes Store).
