How do I keep Apple Music navigation bar open when clicking through my library when it's not in full screen mode?

This is not a problem when in full screen. But now I'm trying to read off a window on one side of the screen while I drag songs into a playlist so I need the navigation bar open and I need to make the app smaller to fit the other window I'm reading from. So I've set a half size Apple Music app on the left and the list I'm reading on the right. But the minute I go to scroll from the main list, the navigation pane on the left closes. It would make it much easier not having to use the mouse for every single song I'm adding to my playlist.
