Sync folders to iCloud Drive without moving them to Documents or Desktop folders

I think there w s a recent change to this and management of alias folders, as my settings were so that I synced specific folders with an alias to iCloud Drive.

Now I see this feature is not available anymore.

How can I set syncing specific folders to iCloud Drive WITHOUT moving the folder to the Documents or Desktop folder in Finder?

Hope there is some help out there.

You just drag the folder to iCloud Drive. iCloud Drive is just another folder on your Mac-- the only difference is that its contents are copied to iCloud.com. See this:

Hi Richard.Taylor

Thank you for a very comprehensive explanation.

I understood iCloud exactly like that, however I had some other folders previously syncing to iCloud as a backup solution.

So this query is mostly about syncing folders to iCloud without moving them from where they reside on my MacBook SSD file-structure.

But as I understand from information retrieved on the web and your comprehensive explanation, this is not possible on iCloud anymore.

It sure would be nice if I could back up / sync selective folders/files to iCloud without moving them to iCloud Drive.

In the past I made use of the "alias" function (or option) and in doing so good created an edited files in the original location (on my Macbook Pro SSD) and they would appear exactly like that on the iCloud Drive.

This would be used for remote emergency access to the selected files and folders if needed, without having my full document library residing on iCloud Drive.

Keep up the good work and thank you for the kind and informative response.

Regards.

Chris
