FaceTime from phone to Apple TV only in portrait?

Is there any way of getting facetime calls airplay to an appletv without them appearing in portrait mode. So far each time I have tried to have a family gathering with distant members using FaceTime on appleTV my phone will only broadcast in portrait mode, and even when turning my phone sideways all this does is reduce the image still further to fit the landscape picture within the portrait frame, where is full screen option?
