Apple Pay charging a card not in my walllet

I got a receipt from an a payment I made via Apple Pay (entered my passcode) and the last 4-digits of the account t charged do not match any account I have on Apple Pay - nor do they match any account I or my husband have. Has someone created an Apple Pay account with a credit using my name? Is this a fraud or stolen identity situation?

Any card you add to Apple Wallet has a new account number created. The new number is often referred to as an Apple Pay number, but the correct name is DPAN (Digital Primary Account Number).

So, your cards have the number on the physical card (magnetic strip, chip and printed on card), DPAN or Apple Pay and if the bank offer a virtual number, a third set of numbers. They also typically have different expiration dates, and security codes.

The card details are available in your Wallet app by following this path,

iPhone > Wallet > tap card > tap card symbol at top of screen > Apple Pay number is displayed
