I cannot edit the address bar in Safari once a web page is loaded

I'm using Safari 26 on a Mac Studio. If I enter a search term in an empty Safari address bar, like for here, it works. But once loaded I cannot edit the search bar, select the text, or do anything with it. I just get the popup box you see in the screenshot. On my MBP using the same settings and the same Safari version it works per usual. I can highlight say "discussions" in discussions.apple.com in the address bar to anything I want.

I've restarted and cleared caches, etc.

Searching by typing in the address bar works as normal in all my other browsers.

I've disabled all Safari extensions.

Thanks

Mac Studio, macOS 15.7

Hi all, Apple just published Safari 26.0.1 that corrects this issue.

I am having the exact same problem.

It seems that switching from Compact to Separate Tabs changes the situation for me as well, but the situation remains that the browser otherwise now has a Search field that is non-responsive to clicks. Even after restarting the browser and disabling all extensions;

  • I cannot click into the field to change an address, I can only Cmd+L into it
  • I cannot click the Reload icon that appears when hovering over it; it is non-responsive
  • I cannot click the X icon to close the tab; it is also non-responsive
