In MacOS26, what happened to the Compact Tabs option?

I am profoundly disappointed that one of my favorite differentiators in the user experience for Safari has disappeared ... the compact tabs option. I prefer my browser to be as minimal as possible and the compact tabs option previously provided by Safari was so good and such a natural evolution merging the URL bar and the tabs into a cohesive experience. It helped to reduce the weight of the header giving more room to content and made interacting with the tabs and using them to navigate the web very natural. I now find it extremely awkward using the disjointed and separated URL field and tabs bar.

Please please please bring back the compact tabs option to MacOS26! It was one of the features that make Safari a better option for me.

The only improvement would be maintaining consistent tab widths while deleting so that you can sequentially delete tabs while clicking the "x" without having to move your cursor.
