Watch content on TV and IPad simultaneously

Is it possible to airplay from my iPad to my Apple TV and view the content on the iPad and the TV simultaneously?

Im asking since I’m visually impaired so I sync with my family on the tv but is there a way to just view the same stuff at the same time on both devices skipping thr need to sync and avoid the risk of drifting away

Not really.

  • Standard AirPlay blacks out the source screen (with a message), as you will have noticed. It is a bit like forwarding the stream to a different device.
  • Screen Mirroring (through Control Center) could show on both the source and destination, ① but with a small delay (due to screen capture, re-encoding). ② It also doesn’t account for differences in screen aspect ratio, so you could end up with both pillarbox bars and letterbox bars on the destination screen. ③ Apps that need to prevent screen capture (e.g. commercial streaming services) on iPadOS (and iOS) would typically switch automatically from true screen mirroring to standard AirPlay, so it is not user choice.

You could give feedback to Apple, that you have a legitimate need for this as an accessibility feature. Then they could maybe implement something in a future software release, if they agree.
