Dock disappears randomly on macOS Tahoe 26.0

Since updating to macOS Tahoe 26.0 (release version) on my MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021, Apple M1 Max), I’ve noticed that the Dock occasionally disappears and does not return. Dock is set to always show (auto-hide is off).

The only way I’ve found to restore it quickly is by opening Spotlight → typing Terminal → and running killall Dock. This instantly brings the Dock back without needing to toggle settings.

I’ve already reported this bug to Apple via the official macOS feedback form, but I wanted to share it here in case others are experiencing the same issue — and also to provide this quick workaround until Apple releases a fix.

Has anyone else run into this?

Update:

In my case the issue is specifically triggered by the screensaver.

After waking from screensaver the Dock disappears.

As a temporary workaround I disabled the screensaver, and since then the Dock has remained stable.

Hope this helps others until Apple fixes it.

To reiterate " What is occurring, on you machine, seems by all accounts, to be localized and unique to your computer "

Having the same issue. Dock disappears randomly. When I go to hover down by it with the mouse, it'll pop up and then disappear when the mouse pointer goes elsewhere. Have to go to Settings > Desktop & Dock and toggle on and off the "Automatically hide and show the Dock" to fix it. Seems to happen at least once per day since the update. I work a 9-5 on this Mac.

Yes tonight was 1st time I had this annoying issue!

I went to Settings > Desktop & Dock to see if somehow it was now set to hide dock but it was not.

I turned on & then off on and off the "Automatically hide and show the Dock" & so far Dock remains visible.

I will install 26.0.1 later tonight.

I was using Hot corners for Mission Control & Desktop just b4 it happened 1st time. Possibly related?

When going from screen saver/screen sleep to awake while Dock is set to never auto-hide, the Dock will occasionally turn auto-hide on erroneously. This happens most consistently when using the mouse/touch-pad to wake the system.

I have attached a log produced via the command “nohup log stream --predicate 'process == "Dock"' --info --debug >> /var/root/Dock.out 2>&1 &”. This log seems to show a race condition where the system acknowledges the Dock as having auto-hide disabled, then sets it to auto-hide regardless. My best guess is that the system thinks the mouse cursor has left the screen during the awakening sequence due to rapid cursor movement pressing the cursor against the edge of the screen (handleDockEventMouseLeave), causing the Dock to hide (autoHideOn) and sticking there.

This has been driving me crazy. I set the dock to the left of the primary screen, always on and use it constantly all day.

So when it just appears gone randomly (Not sure if this is just a screensaver issue but let's see a fix) I have to make it come back Option + Command +D. Making Settings>Desktop & Dock settings:Automatically hide & show the Dock [OFF] absolutely worthless. 😞

However Tahoe did fix my crazy booting issue I had where the secondary monitor in portrait mode would take over and force me to log in sideways as it would behave landscape. That was more frustrating. Baby Steps I guess. 🤷‍♂️

I've reported this bug as well. It's related to the screen saver. I've tried to understand what makes it trigger. Because sometimes when you try to enter computer when screen saver is active, it shows desktop then pops right back into screen saver... now that's one bug, and the other is that it "wakes up" twice.. real quick, the display goes black two times and the dock disappears, and you have to turn on / off dock auto-hide in the system pref to restore it.

One **** of an annoying bug that needs to be fixed asap because it's also effecting my Studio Display because I think it turns itself on/off real fast when this happens.
