Unable to connect my iphone during a Apple Music Sing Session

I tried connecting my iPhone as a mic on the Sing app on the Apple TV. I receive from the prompt to Accept from my iPhone. I see my I’m connected on the Apple TV. However, I receive an Audio Disconnected message on the upper right of the Apple TV. They are all on IOS 26. I have the AppleTV 4K with ethernet. I also switch the audio to TV as suggested isntead of HomePod

I had a similar issue and I finally fixed it. Your iPhone won’t work as a microphone when AirPlay is connected. I went into my iPhone settings and changed AirPlay to “ask”, and then i closed Apple Music on my iPhone and kept it closed. You must use the app on the Apple TV 4K as the “controlling” app and your iPhone only as the microphone. Basically, if AirPlay is connected on your iPhone, then your iPhone is working as an output device and can’t be used as an input device at the same time for the microphone.

Ok, so that got my iPhone to connect but I couldn’t get my wife’s iPhone to connect for anything. 5 seconds after connecting it would say “Clara’s microphone is unavailable”. After a couple of hours of troubleshooting with ChatGPT, we determined that my wife’s microphone permissions got corrupted. Since Apple deleted some of the menu options in settings, the only way to fix it was to remove her as a user by deleting her profile and device on the Apple TV, restarting both devices, and then re-adding her profile and device. I think it was the profile that fixed the problem, not the device. Lastly, it took about 5 minutes after re-adding everything for the microphone to start working. Almost like it was working in the background. Absolutely my most frustrating experience with an Apple product and thank goodness for ChatGPT. No human would’ve sat through that for me. 😂
