Upgrading 2015 Mac to SSD and 32 GB RAM: Can I go beyond Big Sur?

I upgraded my 2015 Mac to SSD and 32 gig ram what stops me from going beyond Big Sur

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Mid 2015)

3.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5

32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

AMD Radeon R9 M290 2 GB

How far you can upgrade depends on your Mac’s model and hardware release year / time of year.


For your iMac, Big Sur is the end of the line. Adding more RAM and a SSD might make system performance better, but will not qualify your system to run a newer OS.
