Since updating to iOS 18.5 in July 2025, my iPhone 16 has been showing overheating warnings multiple times a day. The issue continues with iOS 18.7. The phone is not hot when the warning appears, and it often happens during light usage — especially when I receive notifications from Control Centre. Sometimes the warning pops up even when I’m not actively using the phone. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?
Are you seeing a thermometer on your iPhone screen with a message the phone can't be used until it cools down? If you are and the phone is not in use and feels cool to the touch, I'd schedule an appointment at my Apple Store Genius Bar to have the phone tested.
If the device has been liquid damaged, or has previously overheated badly, the sensors may have been permanently damaged.
Aside from that, the sensors may just be failing.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store and have it checked.
