Things not working in macOS Tahoe release?

Media files will not play in Get Info

e.g. m4a and .mp4 > Get Info

They are no longer playable in the Get Info window.

In no particular order…

  1. dragging a folder to the Dock works for me.
  2. It seems Apple removed the feature to play media files in Get Info. I never used it previously. I've selected a file and pressed the Space Bar for Quick Look or played it from the Finder Preview panel.
  3. I have no problem with the Menu bar. Make sure "Automatically hide and show the menu bar" isn't set to "Always" in System Settings > Menu Bar.
  4. About the rounded corners, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
  5. I don't have and issue moving windows.
  6. No idea what you think the problem with Preview is. Works fine for me.

Folder Dragged to Dock not adding to Dock.

This happened several times and lead me to extensive experimenting to see what exactly was causing it.

I have a folder of Timetables I regularly consult. Experimented with colouring the folder and adding a distinctive icon. I tried both original folders and alias of the folder.

Dragging the folder to the Dock would cause the items in the Dock to spread apart and make room for the added folder. Then letting go of the folder would cause it to disappear with nothing showing in the Dock. Tried every possible variation I could think of and got the same thing happening. Eventually created a brand new empty folder and that finally worked. After that the old folders worked as well. Weird!

Still have not got the Folder colour + icon appearing in the Dock which was the whole point of the exercise.

Sort of like it. At least it's a change. The overly rounded windows are a mistake and look ugly.

I like how my desktop widgets bleed into the background when I am not in Finder.

Dragging windows to corners and edges has got harder. It doesn't seem to recognise what I am doing.

I was hoping for upgrades/bug fixes to the iWork Apps but basically got bugger all.

Preview has got buggier again, wish Apple would update it and make it just work, but fat chance of that happening.

  1. As I said dragging the folder failed then eventually worked, not sure what I triggered.
  2. Playing from File Info is useful as it plays in the background and does not stop if you switch elsewhere. Finder Preview eats up a wide swathe of my window. File Info also lets me play multiple files.
  3. It happened intermittently. Auto Hide is set to Full Screen Only.
  4. I am a nitpicking UI designer.
  5. Wasn't with moving windows it was with having them size to half or quarter screen when dragged to screen edges.
  6. Preview has a string of bugs, for a long time. In this case it wouldn't highlight text, when previously it was no issue in the same pdf document.

Sounds like your install has issues. Perhaps some third party app/s you have installed. As far as being nit picky, it's still a matter of opinion. I've been using Tahoe since June and have none of the issues you mention. If I want to play music in the background, I would use one of any number of apps available. I certainly wouldn't use File Info.

I have no problem highlighting text in PDF documents.

I have had the disappearing Menubar again, and not caught by surprise this time, I observed what exactly was happening.

The Menu titles are showing as white text against the standard Lake Tahoe wallpaper but Finder is not filling in a flat blue background so the text is visible. Instead there is a thin blue line defining the bottom where the menubar should be. After a delay Finder catches up and renders the menu background over the wallpaper and the Menubar text becomes legible.

After using macOS Tahoe now for several days, I remain puzzled as to what benefit the User gets from having such a complex rendering of the user interface. If it aided understanding of the information revealed or provided hints as to how to interact with the UI I could maybe see benefits. As it is, it appears to be window dressing (literally).

It is very much like the people who produce presentations with swirling text and loud background music to annoy the crap out of anyone trying to make sense of what they are saying.

In design just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
