Do I need to convert my SIM to eSIM for Quick Transfer to iPhone 17?

So all am seeing are eSim to eSim quick transfer How-tos.

Presently have a physical Sim in my 13 mini. Do I have to convert it to an eSim before going for a Quick Transfer to my new IPhone 17 or will the 17 see the cell info as is and transfer it?
