Scanner will perform Overview but not scan.

I'm using Preview version 11.0 and macOS Sequoia 15.6.1 to operate my scanner, Epson Perfection 1640SU. The scanner is NOT on a network but simply connected to a USB hub. I updated the Epson driver and other Epson software. Preview sees the scanner and the Overview function operates. One can see and hear the lightbar move the full length of the scan bed. When I select "Scan", the lightbar starts but seems to stall and Preview appears to be buffering but never completes the scan. When using Epson Scan 2 the app does not see my scanner. When I try to add it I'm asked for an address. Selecting my scanner in system setting simply opens Preview and I'm back where I started.

What is the dpi Resolution set at..?

If using a lower dpi resolution does not help..?

Try using the Image Capture app instead of Preview.

In addition to the regular Epson 1640SU driver you also need to install the Epson ICA Scanner Driver v 5.8.23 for your scanner in order for it to work with Image Capture.

If that doesn't work then I suggest using Vuescan for all your scanning needs. It does not need any of the Epson drivers.

Two replies:

First, I mis-spoke. I was using Image Capture, not Preview.

Second, reducing dpi from 800 to 600 made no difference. When I hit "Scan" the lightbar activated but seemed to stall. Image Capture continues to buffer. Cancel button doesn't work. One must close Image Capture.

I then changed the Kind setting from "Millions of Colors" to "Black and White." The problem persists.

Scanner will perform Overview but not scan.
