Maps navigation freezes in weak or no cell sevice areas
This happened twice using CarPlay in a vehicle with it natively using a wireless connection, different locations.
While navigating using Apple Maps, the app stopped updating the location or rather froze at a specific spot and the arrival ETA kept creeping as if the phone wasn't moving. I did notice the location it stopped at was where cell service was spotty at best in northern WI. The first time was while Apple Music was playing audio and the second was while Apple Podcasts was playing audio at the same time. No turns were required near where the freeze happened. Both times a phone restart worked around the issue but I had to wait until I was in a location with cell service to restart the navigation since the phone needed it to find where I wanted to go. I attempted to end the route and force close the Apple Maps app when in a cell service area to no avail, my current location could not be found. Google Maps was used in an attempt to avoid the restart the first time but that app also could not find it's location prior to restart.
I understand I found the work around but I wouldn't call that a fix unless it's a design limitation I haven't read or heard about. I don't recall my previous phones having issues maintaining location and/or navigation through areas with limited, weak, or no cell service while using map applications.
