Expect the release later today (Monday). Based on past experience it will probably be sometime in Apple’s regular California business hours. Give them time to fill their coffee mugs and check for updates around and after 10:00 PDT (17:00 UTC)
While iOS/iPadOS 26 is scheduled for release later today, 26th September, you might be well advised to wait until the first point-update is released - this typically being a few days later.
Experience demonstrates that the first production release to the wide population (literally millions of devices) will uncover a number of previously undetected bugs and issues. Waiting just a few days for the dust to settle, provides opportunity to save yourself some potential frustration; the first point-update will usually resolve any significant issues that are detected/reported with the initial production release.
While everyone will be excited to update to the latest version, it doesn't always pay to be an early adopter.
