Keep messages in icloud BUT NOT on device?

Hi, I'm trying to figure out how I can free up device storage and use instead the significant amount of iCloud storage that I am paying for.

I understand that selecting "Keep Messages: 30 days" or "Keep Messages: 1 year" will delete messages across all devices and icloud.

Is there an option that will offload the burden of storage from my devices TO icloud, much like the "optimize storage" option for photos?
