Probably, but still NOT a good idea. The phone MUST be purchased from Apple directly or you'll likely wind up with a phone which is carrier locked, which won't work in India. And there is no such thing as International Warranty on iPhone, meaning that Apple or Authorized Service Providers in India may and often do refuse warranty support on phone purchased in another country. If your goal is to perhaps save money, the savings will evaporate and then some if you need to get on a plane to bring a phone to the US for service.

For safety, ask your preferred network in India if they will accept and activate eSIM for a device purchased in USA.

Be aware that USA and India use cellular frequency bands, and use of a device which is equipped with unapproved regional bands might be illegal in some countries. If that is a problem in India they will almost certainly refuse to activate the USA device. You will also not have warranty or repair cover in India because it is a different model number not supported in India, and you would have to return a problem phone to service in USA.

Advice as always is to purchase from an authorised seller within the country where you intend to use the device.
