Missing iPhone 17Pro Pro Res RAW documentation

Apple has not yet updated their article on About Apple ProRes on iPhone - Apple Support

with details about recording Pro Res RAW on iPhone 17 Pro.

Does it require an external SSD or not? I assume it does depending on how much storage your

phone will have. They marketed the feature, but did not have that article updated with that information.

The marketing page says NOTHING about it! Again I think its certain it needs and external SSD, but Apple needs a specific section for "RAW" Pro Res on iPhone. They have known about this for a while and are making a deal about it!

And this. While it does not list the iPhone 17 explicitly, the information is likely to be the same.

Record ProRes files to an external storage device

With iPhone 15 Pro models and iPhone 16 Pro models, you can connect an external storage device with USB-C to store or record your ProRes files directly on an external storage device. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Your external storage device must be formatted with exFAT. Password-encrypted drives aren't supported.
  • Use a USB 3 cable with speed of at least 10 Gbits per second.
  • Your external storage device must write at speeds of at least 220 MB per second for 4K60 ProRes and at least 440MB per second for 4K120 ProRes. If you attach a slower external storage device, you might get a Slow Recording Speed message.
  • Use the Files app to format your external storage device and manage your ProRes files. You must re-format your external storage device before beginning each 4K120 ProRes recording session to ensure optimal performance.
  • To record to your iPhone, disconnect the external storage device.

OK. But no one yet has an iPhone 17 model until at least this coming Friday. I'd check back after the phones are officially launched or if you feel Apple needs to be aware of this, you are not alerting Apple to anything here. This is a user to user only forum, where no one Apple participates, nor reads for user feedback.
