iMac and Mac Late 2015 unsupported file Unzip error from Google drive Photos & Videos

if anyone is trying to download their backed up photos, videos and files to your Mac computer, please be aware you will always have unzip errors with several codes from 01 to 02 to 79 error! this is not due to you zip application, and not due to your file being corrupted either, simply your Mac computer any type is no longer supported! I've tried it an no matter what you do you won't unzip any large downloaded files from your google drive, again this is due to the OS you re running, again affect all late 2015 Mac computers.

if you have access to a much newer Mac with the most recent OS, no issues! I have tried it and it works without any issues; may be worth even using a Windows PC should you wish to download and remove your back up from Google drive.

It appears that Google has abandoned support for anything earlier than Monterey.

Google Drive Help – Learn about system requirements & browsers

----------

Mac:

  • MacOS Big Sur 11.0 and up
  • Important: Beginning in September 2025, Drive for desktop will no longer support macOS versions earlier than Monterey 12.1.

----------

An iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) can run the latest version of Monterey, and it appears from your tag line that you are running a version of macOS that Google Drive supposedly still supports. As to why you are having problems anyway, that would be a good question for Google Support. (Maybe they have upped their minimum requirements again and their help page is out of date?!?)
