Hearing aid disconnects after phone call starts

When I make a phone call, I hear the ring tone in my hearing aid, but a few seconds after the recipient starts talking the sound switches to the phone. If I switch the sound back to the hearing aid using the control panel, it momentarily reconnects the hearing aid then switches output back to the phone. The caller can hear me the whole time. I've been using my hearing aid with the phone for years and this just started happening with iOS 18.6.1

colin ~ Your iPhone 12 Pro Max could be 5 years old and the long process of applying an iOS update to an iPhone with a weak, aging battery can be the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back." (And a weak battery is often the cause of connectivity issues.) So...

Does your iPhone 12 Pro Max still have its original battery?

And what's the Maximum Capacity % here?...

Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging
