iMac screen goes black on entering the password

When I enter my password on my iMac and press enter, the screen goes black. Then my computer populates the desktop with icons. Then the wallpaper appears. I cannot figure out how to correct it. Right now, Apple downloaded Ventura on my computer.

This only just started. I have had this computer for the past six years.

Does anyone know how to correct this issue?

+ 1 try Safe Mode first..

Then if that doesn't fix the problem..?

Have you tried to boot the Mac in the safe mode to see if the issues persist ?

Start up your Intel-based Mac in safe mode

Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key until you see the login window.
Log in to your Mac.
You might be asked to log in again.
On either the first or second login window, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.
