Apple Pay won’t let me add cards due to Apple Cash region issue

I am unable to add new cards to Apple Pay; it says Apple Cash is not available in this region and sends me back to the main menu. I am located outside the US, but in a country that supports Apple Pay. I have never activated Apple Cash, but the toggle appears to be on. I tried changing the region to the US both on my device and in my Apple ID settings, but it didn’t help. I also attempted to disable the Apple Cash toggle, but received the same error and was again redirected to the Apple Wallet main menu. I’ve tried from different iCloud devices, but the problem persists. What should I do?

There were banking regulations changes in Hong Kong that may be the issue you’re encountering. Due to the changes some cards are not permitted to be added to Apple Wallet. There are multiple threads about the issue already in the community. Most banks have added statements to their website about the issue. Please contact the bank’s support team to see if your card(s) are affected by the issue.


Adding car keys to Wallet is a car manufacturer’s issue. Please contact their support team for assistance with the issue.

Note that any payment cards installed in wallet generally need to match your Apple Account’s country of residence.


Plus, any payment card issuer must also elect to participate in ApplePay.

Hi! I added this card to my MacBook Pro, and everything works. iCloud syncing is enabled, but this card is unavailable on my iPhone. When I try to add this card to my iPhone, I get an error: Apple Cash is not available in this country, and I can't add the card. This seems to be a 100% iOS issue. How can I fix this?

Could this be related to the country the iPhone was manufactured in?
