Ventura 13.7.8 no longer supports Messages and FaceTime.

Ventura 13.7.8 on my 10-year-old iMac no longer supports Messages and FaceTime. I spent an hour on the phone with Apple Support. It seems my computer can't be updated to the newest update. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Keep in mind that Messages are all controlled by your iPhone. Whenever I have had issues with Messages on macOS, I have either had to reboot the iPhone, update iOS on the iPhone, or turn off Messages on the iPhone, then re-enable Messages on the iPhone. Many times it also involves rebooting my Mac with each change on the iPhone as well. Sometimes I even quit the Messages app on macOS so it would have to relaunch....sometimes prompting me to log in again, but that issue was many years ago when I was using Catalina.

FYI, I have no issues using Messages on Ventura or even Big Sur which is two versions/years older.

What exact issue are you encountering with Messages on macOS Ventura? What is the exact error message?

Your iPhone Messages configuration settings needs to be configured properly as well.

If you are using any third party anti-virus software, cleaning/optimizer apps, or third party security software, or VPNs, etc., then any one of them could be causing your problem since they all interfere with macOS at a very low level and are known to cause all sorts of system issues. If you have these types of apps installed, then uninstall them by following the developers' instructions.

It is also possible you have some sort of networking issue going on....after all the Messages app on macOS needs access to the Internet for the necessary protocols it may be using and access to your iPhone & AppleID (aka Apple's servers).

The problem has been corrected! Apparently Apple saw my request, put a message on my iPhone asking for details and my phone #. A few hours later they sent me an email saying it was fixed. I logged in and Messages stayed logged in. The only problem was getting my messages sent from my phone to my computer, which I was able to fix in my Settings. Apple must have reset things to default there which did not include my email address assigned to my Apple account.

My computer is 10 years old. The other day I opened Messages and got a window telling me to log in with my Apple ID. I got in, but a few seconds later it shut down and I got the same log in window. After two tries it said my Apple ID was incorrect! So I got a new ID. Did the same thing again, so I called Apple Support. She had me try a couple things (I'd already tried the suggestions the Internet suggested). It seems Apple's newest software update won't work on my old computer and they've changed something that won't let me log in to Messages or FaceTime. The Support person said she was sending me my case #, but I never received it.

When I sign in I am told my Apple ID is not correct. If I ask for a new ID, it will open Messages, but then immediately shuts down. If I try again using the new ID, it tells me it is not correct. I'm on my third new ID and still have the same problem of it shutting down after a few seconds. When this problem started a couple days ago I had not installed any new apps so that shouldn't be the problem. The Apple Tech had me use a Hotspot on my phone so it's not my wifi connection (plus I'm hardwired to the internet also). I just updated my phone to the latest OS. That did not help. My computer can no longer be updated beyond the Ventura 13.7.8 because even though there is a new OS it says my computer is up-to-date.

I have an identical problem with Facetime. Started just this week. I am prompted to enter my Apple ID & password, then it appears to be signing me in but after a pause it just comes back with the sign-in window.

Facetime was working perfectly on all my Macs up to a few days ago ... and the same problem has appeared on all three of them ... one each running Sequoia, Sonoma & Monterey, so I do not believe it's an O/S related thing. Further puzzle is that Facetime still works pefectly fine on my iPhone 16Pro w/iOS 18.6.2.
