I found my 3rd Gen iPad for a project and can't find a charger. My online search found and bought one, but it has large metal guides on the sides that don't fit in the iPad. A previous thread on here from 2021 had a link to buy them from apple, but they are apparently no longer available.
Chat Gpt said I needed a MA591G - but the pictures show it with the large side guides.
Anyone have any ideas?
MA591G is the part number of an old style dock connector to USB cable. That is not a charger.
A charger or power adapter is a brick-like object that plugs into a wall, it does not plug into an iPad.
The cable then connects the iPad to the power adapter or charger.
What are you looking for then? The power adapter brick or the cable?
A 3rd generation iPad has the wide 30 pin dock connector on the bottom, so that type of cable should work.
For the actual power adapter, any USB power adapter will work.
For a cable, you need a 30 pin to USB or USB-C cable that can connect to both the iPad and the charger brick.

There’s only one type of 30 pin connector, so unless you bought something entirely different, it should fit.

Apple no longer makes 30 pin to usb cables, so it will have to be a third party option, but you can find a ton of them on Amazon.

An iPad3 requires a simple USB 5W (5V @1.0A) or 10W (5V @2.0A) Power Adapter.
You can use a Power Adapter with a greater power output if you choose to do so, however the iPad will not charge any faster.
Most any USB-A charger will work here. Or a USB-C charger, with a USB-C to Lightning cable.
iPad 3rd gen is a 32-bit model, tops out at iOS 9, and basically no third-party apps will work with it, and there will be difficulties with using the built-in apps including Safari.
