Contactless payment not prompting

I’ve been using contactless payment on my iPhone 14 Pro Max for years with no issue. Now when I’m trying to pay and hold my phone near the reader the usual screen showing my bank cards doesn’t come up.


I’ve tried opening wallet whilst near the card reader but that doesn’t do anything either. Even when the cashier has cancelled the payment and tried again it doesn’t prompt my phone to allow payment.

Please try double clicking first, then Face ID and lastly hold near terminal. If that doesn’t work, contact Apple Support. You need to have Apple perform diagnostics on your iPhone. It can be done in person at an Apple Retail Store or at an Apple Authorized Service Provider. You can also contact Apple Support and request remote diagnostics.

Are you double clicking the Side Button (power button) to activate Apple Pay and authenticate using Face ID? Once authenticated, you’ll see the default card, but are able to use a different card or a loyalty card etc.


Just holding your phone near a transaction terminal without double clicking was never a true method of using Apple Pay, in my experience. In my experience it worked at best occasionally, and I learned to double clicking, hold up to my face to authenticate and then I’d use my default or pick a different card.

Holding my phone near the terminal would bring up the prompt and then using Face ID I’d pay. I never had to double click to activate it.


The only time I’ve double clicked is when I’m using apple pay on my phone to order on an app or website and double clicked to confirm a payment.


I saw your reply about this problem in

another thread and I’ve checked the nfc is working which it is and I’ve also tried taking off my phone case and that didn’t work.
