Ethernet built-in Port not showing in Network/Services - can't add in my MacStudio M1Max

The built in Ethernet port on my Mac Studio M1 Max was working perfectly for several weeks. Bought it refurbished in June. By July 1 the Ethernet port just stopped working. I tried a different router and a new cable first - still not working. Just shows a red dot in Network Service. Already tried the sudo command to turn off en0 and then back on - but Terminal returns the message Ethernet not available. Went into Network Services and removed the Config (Ethernet) itself.. but now it's not in the list of things allowed to be added back in. Only Thunderbolt Bridge is there. I did a PRAM zap too. Still nothing. I'm a veteran Mac user and even beta tester for Apple from back in the 80s. I'm far from a noob.. But I'm stuck here. Could a refurbished MacStudio's ethernet HARDware die that soon? I'll probably be able to get Ethernet using a T3 to Ethernet dongle and using Thunderbolt Bridge - right? But I'd like to get the actual port back up and running. Any ideas other than what I already tried? Oh - also got rid of the Network Services.plist and rebooted. Still nothing.

Given your extensive troubleshooting and experience, it does seem like the onboard Ethernet hardware on your Mac Studio M1 Max could be failing, especially since it was working well for weeks and then suddenly stopped. Hardware failures in refurbished units, while less common, are definitely possible, particularly with components like the Ethernet port that can be susceptible to failure over time or due to manufacturing defects.

An Ethernet port failing is a possibility, but it is rare.

You probably should have your mac checked out, if it did fail it may be fixed under warranty.

FWIW, you could use a Thunderbolt 3 to Ethernet adapter, as you mentioned, but that would have nothing to do with Thunderbolt Bridge. The latter is a feature that allows direct connection over Thunderbolt - you could use it to connect two macs directly with a Thunderbolt cable. Not used a lot, as far as I can tell (I did try it some years ago as an alternative to Target Disk Mode to transfer a lot of data from one mac to another, and it worked, but requires some configuration).
