Apple Watch For Your Kids - Australia - Better Roaming cellular plans for Apple Watch compatibility query

I have just purchased an Apple Watch for my 13 year old with the intention of setting up as an 'Apple Watch For Your Kids'. Better Roaming is the provider in Australia to set the watch up independent from a phone; the Better Roaming website claims their watch plans work independently of the mobile plan used for the parent's / caregiver's iPhone, however, this does not seem to be the case.

Has anyone else had difficulty with setting up an Apple Watch For Your Kid using Better Roaming for the watch service provider, and the iPhone being on a plan with Amaysim?

to add to that, the following message is displayed in the watch app under ‘mobile’: The OPTUS account on this iPhone cannot be used to add a mobile data plan to “Jack's Apple Watch“.

according to the Apple and Better Roaming websites the better roaming service should work regardless of the phone provider?

How do I use a BetterRoaming data plan with Apple Watch For Your Kids mode?

You can book a plan for your Apple Watch now at Apple Watch roaming plans.

Alternatively, you can also book a plan via the Watch app on your iPhone. To do this, open the app on your iPhone, scroll to “Cellular” and follow the onscreen instructions. 

If the Watch app isn't already on your device, you can download it for free from the App Store. Find a step-by-step tutorial for adding a BetterRoaming plan to your watch here.

HI Ingo2711, yes I have tried these steps thanks. Amaysim have confirmed they do not support connectivity with wearables which must be where the problem lies, however, I still find this confusing because the Apple website says that Better Roaming data plans work for the watch despite the carrier of the phone it is paired with?

I think you add the Watch plan as an eSIM? I don’t think there are any other ways of adding a sim to a watch without adding the plan to the phone first

Good news, Kids Watch does not to have to use the same carrier as your iphone

Bad News, yours is not the first such complaint I’ve seen about Better Roaming
