Not finding game file in application support

Have downloaded files from fan forums which I want to add to a game. I seem to only be able to find the duplicated folders from the "public" directory and not the actual one the game uses in application support. When I search for the name in app support nothing shows up. If I search for it on this mac only one folder shows up which is the public one.

Those sites should provide instructions for where those files are located. Games can store their files in many different locations, plus the store where you purchased the game may also influence exactly where some of the game files are store.

Check on the game's various online forums for the macOS locations where those files should be placed. Only they will have the necessary knowledge for modding the game.

Every game can be different. It is doubtful you will find answers on the Apple forum here especially without specifying the exact game (including store from which it was purchased) and the mod itself. The game's dedicated forum or the forum/support site for the mods themselves is where you should be looking & asking for assistance.

Most modern games from the App Store don’t actually keep their data in the plain ~/Library/Application Support folder anymore, instead they’re tucked away inside container paths like ~/Library/Containers/[game.bundle.id]/Data/Library/Application Support/.... That’s why you’re only seeing the “public” folder when you search.

Now, for you easiest way: check the game’s bundle ID (right-click app > Get Info) and then look inside ~/Library/Containers/. If it’s a non-App Store game, sometimes you still get the classic ~/Library/Application Support path, but otherwise mods usually need to go into that container’s Application Support folder.

Which game? The actual savegame data are sandboxed, so the path can be pretty odd. For example, the path to The Sims 2 Super collection savegame is username\Library\Containers\com.aspyr.sims2.appstore\Data\Library\Application Support\Aspyr\The Sims 2.

If you need to access actual GAME DATA files you right click on the application and choose "show package contents."
