The 15" Macbook Pro 2017 is now listed among the "Obsolete and Vintage" products in this Apple article:
Obtaining service for your Apple product after an expired warranty - Apple Support
so I doubt Apple will service yours. That also means an Independent Service Provider will not be able to order new service parts from Apple, only "used/pulled."
And we can't know exactly what failed.
The display on a Retina Macbook Pro is one sealed unit. If any part of it fails or is damaged— even something simple like a worn cable— you have to replace the entire assembly. When I checked the site where I usually price used parts, they have nothing for a 15-inch 2017 Retina Macbook Pro. eBay has some assemblies starting around US$90 if you are a DYI sort of person. NOTE: condition of the advertised units VARIES wildly. Caveat emptor!
Again, neither you or we know the exact fault at the point. Could be a bad logic board. A new display won't fix that.
I am all for keeping old Macs in working order but, considering the potential costs, unknown cause, and the fact that 2017 models were left behind in the macOS race, I'm thinking it's time to let it go.
